but they're starting to resemble a playoff caliber team

I'm not sure about that but a few individuals are playing better. We need consistent 4-line contributions and still goaltending was average Saturday. Trending up? Maybe but a winning streak to put us back in the Pacific would help to qualify that...

Thanks for the write up Todd...

Definitely trending in the right direction, but not sure about playoff contender yet. Goal trending needs to be much better, and play in our own zone needs to be better. Gotta be stronger in front of the net, and start picking up rebounds. We also have to start clearing the puck when we have a chance.

I think a move on defence needs to be made. Russell and/or Wideman need to be sat or moved. We have smid and kulak who could slot in. It would be nice to see what nakladal can do, also andersson looked good in preseason and has had a good start to his year. I think we have options, it's time to start trying them out.

They look nowhere close to a playoff team. They have major deficiencies everywhere. They don't have the players to be a high scoring team, they're awful defensively, and their goalies have been average.

This week should be a good barometer of where they're at though. If they go 0-3, fire everyone and start wooing Matthews.

With Brodie back, we are going to see things slowly get back to being more consistent on defence. Keep Brodie with Gio until Gio is 100%. I don't think he is yet. I don't think he is back to 100% strength in that arm yet. It's going to take him some games, but with Brodie, the mental part of the game will come back quicker. This will rub off on the others. Seeing it in Hamilton already.

So glad Hartley moved Bennett with Gaudreau. Jooris or Jones with those two will be fun/decent. We need a top 6 dangler who can open the ice for Hudler & allow Monahan to get in the shooting zones where he has proven to be lethal. I wish Poirier or Klimchuk are doing so well we could bring them up & fill that need but they aren't. Not sure Ferland is more than a 3rd liner. We have lots of 3rd liners. I wonder if Klimchuk or Poirier with Russell or Wideman could get us that high end forward we need?

"The Flames are still five games under .500 but they're starting to remotely resemble a playoff caliber team."

What would it cost for the Flames to get Nichushkin out of Dallas?

Turning a corner??

More like driving a ox cart on the trans Canada hiway, just outside of regina closest corner is a season away.

A think it's a little early to give up on him so his price should be semi high still ...

Yeah I like your way of thinking but even with his slow start I dont think we would like the pricetag.

When making a trade this early in the season you most likely need two struggling teams ...Dallas is playing well and is probably not in any hurry to make a deal ...now come deadline if he is struggling and we have a piece they like then you can look at a deal

As much as the fans of other teams will laugh this team has looked far better in the past week then the previous games ...if they had even had average goaltending they would have a few more wins

that goaltending you guys got Friday was appalling. if that's the type of tending you're getting every night, there's nothing that a team can do to overcome that.

I would argue that even going back to the Detroit game they haven't been playing that bad. The goaltending is atrocious, but the good news is that it can't get any worse (can it?!)

The guys on the Fan960 this morning were already writing Ortio off which I think is unfair. Goalies need time to find their game in the NHL. I think it would be a mistake to subject him to waivers. Stay the course.
